Every original culture around the planet, when it still held uninterrupted generational wisdom aimed at supporting thriving life, had specific traditional guidelines of care for the postpartum mother. While the details differ from culture to culture, the overall themes are remarkably similar. The distillation of this global postpartum care wisdom is at the core of the acclaimed Innate Traditions program, which I am a graduate of.
Many difficulties are commonly encountered by modern families in the postpartum time, due to the loss of this vital wisdom, and the village way of life. Challenges such as postpartum depression & anxiety, pelvic floor dysfunction, prolonged maternal fatigue & pain, deterioration of romantic relationships, & constant infant distress have become normalized, because they are so common in our modern societies. But these difficulties are NOT inherent to the postpartum time. They are a result of a lack of vital care for the mother.
As a certified Innate Practitioner, I offer at home services with the following areas of specialization.

~ Nervous System Regulation - through bodywork, co-regulation, & guided breath-work
This is the first step when challenges are encountered, as when we are dis-regulated, in a fight/flight/freeze response, we generally don't have access to our inherent wisdom and intuitive knowing. When the mother is dis-regulated, the baby will certainly be distressed as well (children don't fully learn to self-regulate until around age 7). Solutions, and healing releases often come about spontaneously once the whole family is calm.
~ Tending to Birth Imprints - through Craniosacral therapy, healing dialogue, energy work
Birth imprints are like very powerful emotional impressions that we get during the birth process. Because of how profound the experience of birth is, the emotional impressions we receive at that time tend to form powerful reality-defining beliefs, which we unconsciously operate from. These beliefs can then affect any area of the new family's life, like breastfeeding, bonding with the baby, sleep patterns, and overall mental, emotional, and physical health. Through a therapeutic process that is rooted in presence and attunement, these imprints can be brought to consciousness, any held charge around the experience can heal, and greater vitality and choice becomes available. We may start by tending to the recent birth story of your baby, and, often, we are led to earlier birth imprints of the parents, which when brought into consciousness, can seize to dictate reality.
~ Closing of the Bones Ceremony - bodywork that seals, massage, Sacred drum and song
This ancient ritual is rooted in an acknowledgement of the profound opening (physically, emotionally, mentally, & spiritually), that a mother goes through to bring in new life. From that understanding, naturally, a need to tend to the closing is evident, so that the mother can recover and thrive. This ceremony includes tightly wrapping each segment of the woman's body, with special emphasis on the hips, to help the bones return to normal position, the organs to realign, and the spiritual and energetic opening that happened at birth to seal. In addition, I include massage and drumming, for a truly multidimensional experience where the mother is deeply tended to, in this ancient way. This ceremony often leads to significant healing. It is never too late to receive Closing of the Bones - while it is optimal to do it about 6 weeks postpartum, even years after giving birth a mother can benefit tremendously from this ritual, leading to physical, emotional, and ancestral healing.
~ Nutritional Consultation - based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Weston Price
Every culture around the globe, when its thriving-life-supporting ancestral wisdom was still intact, had specific traditional diets for pre-conception, pregnancy, and postpartum time. Though the diets differed by region, based on the natural local resources, they all had this in common - the understanding that to create a healthy, resilient, optimally developed baby, a woman needs special, very nutrient dense diet. And once the baby is born, these cross-cultural diet highlights are aimed at supporting optimal postpartum recovery and best possible milk for the baby. This is also a very nutrient dense plan, with focus on warm, easy to digest meals.
I have seen many challenges improve or entirely resolve in my postpartum clients as a result of adjusting the mother's diet. These can be maternal fatigue and anxiety, body aches, baby's challenges with sleep and/or breastfeeding, overall baby's distress level, and more. Due to how key this aspect of a new family's health is, nutritional assessment is a part of all my postpartum consults.
